Music is the medium, and it impacts youth culture, families, and communities. We know that music in our society is more provoking now than ever. It expresses feelings, thoughts, and current opinions.

Music is the medium, and it impacts youth culture, families, and communities. We know that music in our society is more provoking now than ever. It expresses feelings, thoughts, and current opinions. It is notorious for prompting ideas that turn into actions the Y.O.U.R.S., Hip Hop Healing Summit is a unique and candid look at the transition from Hip-Hop as a coping mechanism to a destructive element in a hard-pressed society.  Hip-Hop music has risen from a back door practice to one of the most popular mainstream genres known throughout the land. One of our utmost objectives is to positively bring together our love of hip-hop and our love of life. So many dreadful things are taking place daily in our communities and Hip-Hop is being declared to be a part of the problem. We are seeking Hip-Hop lovers from all over the industry and all over our communities to help make the necessary changes in both.  We now hold quarterly summits to inform, enlighten and encourage our community members to help become a part of the solution. Won’t you join us?

ABOUT

Our goal is to create a community forum that will bring together youth, community members, leaders, and influential Hip Hop individuals. The summit provides a platform that promotes community discussions about current issues that plague our communities in New York City to promote positive changes and bring us back into alignment with a united stance against negativity in our neighborhoods.

The program engages youth in all aspects of planning, development, and implementation of the summit. The summit was initially only hosted by Street Corner Resources, a renowned community-based organization that actively works to promote peace and combat violence in the community.

In 2021, Y.O.U.R.S. Hip Hop Healing Summit Program expanded its outreach and was hosted by Pillars, a renowned recovery center in Harlem that offers holistic approaches to recovery from substance use disorder.  This Hip Hop Healing Summit included discussions related to Hip Hop Music, artists, and drug use.

Our Hip Hop Healing Summit will be expanding its outreach and will be partnering up with other community-based organizations in the New York Tri-State Area. If your organization is interested in hosting a Hip Hop Healing Summit Program at your site, please reach out to us at contactyoursny@gmail.com

ABOUT
Roland "Lashain" Smith III was a bright, ambitious, athletic young man loved by everyone he knew. He was taken from his loved ones unexpectedly on January 30, 2018, due to cardiac arrest. He was a shining star in his family who had a remarkable ability to bring people together. His parents describe him as a fantastic athlete, a peacemaker, and an all-around great son. They loved Lashain's peaceful demeanor and were inspired to create the R.S.T.A.R. Troubleshooters Program to represent his peacemaking abilities.

The Smith family selected R.S.T.A.R. Troubleshooters Program name after the passing of Lashain. His parents, Roland and Darice, along with his paternal grandparents' Roland Sr., Merrill; maternal grandmother Mrs. Campbell and his siblings, nephews, cousins, and friends, had the desire to cherish his life. As a family, they decided to memorialize Lashain by focusing on everything he loved doing and developing events and programs that promote activities that incorporate his abilities.

  • The phrase R.S.T.A.R. reflects Lashain's natural presence and the shining star he continues to be as he shines bright in heaven, watching over his family.
  • Troubleshooters represent how Lashain had an innate ability to recognize when friends and family members were struggling with problems. He would intervene as much as he could, making a concerted effort to relieve their troubles.
  • Roland and Darice watched Lashain struggle to get his grades up to get into a division one school. He played football, basketball, track, and mixed martial arts. These are all the sports programs that R.S.T.A.R. Troubleshooter offers to the youth in the community.
  • Lashain valued education, so it is a priority for the Program. The program mentor youth by providing a workshop on how to get their grade average up so that they are no longer struggling in school. Roland Jr. states, "too many youths fall behind in their studies, and Lashain was no exception; however, he motivated himself and eventually caught up in his third year of college."

Roland "Lashain" Smith III was indeed the inspiration for our Program. Smith's vision is that the Program reflects objectives related to how he lived and treated his friends and family. Roland Jr. truly believes that his beloved son passed on, leaving them responsible for carrying out what he started. "He would want us to help our young people make by experiencing fewer struggles.

ABOUT
I Am D.A.D., is defeating autism daily, and we are not giving in to the limitation posed on our children! As a father of two sons diagnosed with autism, I have seen and heard firsthand of the low expectations of my children becoming independent. As a parent, I was lost, struggling, unprepared, and scared. Being a solution-based parent, I researched and studied what I can do to fight for my kid's independence. According to the C.D.C., Children diagnosed with autism have multiplied every year documented since 2010. Average white children are diagnosed and treated at 18 months. In contrast, black children are diagnosed and treated at 48 - 60 months. All children have a right to equal access to medical treatment. Many parents are struggling, scared, and giving up on their kids' possibility to become independent.

Children with special needs often have medical, therapeutic, pharmaceutical, respite, and caregiver expenses. None of these expenses consider the equipment needed for families, homes, and children to function comfortably. Some of these expenses are covered by insurance; however, most are not. Research also shows that children with disabilities are significantly more likely to live in low-income families. It is estimated that 28% of U.S. children with disabilities lived below the federal poverty threshold, contrasted with 16% of children without disabilities.

The good news is that there is assistance available for families raising a special needs child. Aid can come from both state and federal programs. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to this information. I AM D.A.D. educates, empowers, and enlightens families from day one; from birth, you should be aware of what to expect and your options if needed. I Am D.A.D. solutions will eliminate confusion and overwhelming stress for new parents and parents currently fighting for their kid's independence. They will now have answers. The fight is not easy, but it's the best option we have. The results you need are now at your grasp.
