On December 4, 2021, Y.O.U.R.S. held our quarterly Hip Hop Healing Summit in collaboration with Street Corner Resources. a renowned community-based organization that combats violence in Harlem. The summit took place at Street Corner Resource and was hosted by Big Vegg. Panelists included Street Corner Resources C.E.O., Iesha Sekou, Royal C.E.O. Promoter & Public Relations, Mellissa Walker, Music & Film Producer, and Lashawn” Lulu “Lukes. The Women’s Edition focused on Hip Hop artists’ influence on youth and their communities. It also addresses the growing concerns about how music impacts consumers’ actions and behaviors. Suggestions from the panel are:
Artists need to promote positive images in videos and lyrics to prevent violence. Community members can hold artists financially accountable by not listening to and purchasing music that promotes violence in their songs, messages, and videos.
